Authorization and intent
A person's desired outcome and an agent's permission to act are related, but distinct.
Intent describes an outcome someone wants. Authorization describes actions an agent is permitted to take on that person’s behalf.
“Find a suitable service” may authorize search and comparison. Whether it also authorizes a purchase depends on the scope the person has granted. A system needs a way to represent that scope and recognize when a proposed action crosses it.
Questions for a decision
-
Who grants authority, and to which agent?
-
What action, amount, counterparty, or time period does it cover?
-
What should happen if the proposed terms change?
-
How can the owner withdraw permission?
These questions can guide a decision card and the checks around execution. A readable card helps the person decide; enforceable scope determines what the system may do afterward.
